London's Trafalgar Square could be home to a giant 100ft (30.5m) illuminated peace sculpture, if artists Bob & Roberta Smith win the commission to crown the square's one empty plinth, the Guardian reports.
The plinth has been empty for 150 years, but is now used to display specially commissioned works. Bob & Roberta's wind-powered illuminated peace sculpture is competing against five other ideas, including a sculpture of meerkats which artist Tracey Emin describes as representing "unity and safety".

Originally created for the first anti-nuclear demonstration march from London to Aldermaston in 1958, which was also the birth of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, the symbol created by graphic and textile designer Gerald Holtom was constructed using semaphore signals for the letters N and D.
